ROCK HILL, S.C. – Piedmont men’s basketball opened its 2024 season on Monday night in a Division I exhibition contest at Winthrop in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Matched up with former Piedmont standout Ryan Jolly the Lions held tough in the early going. However, the Eagles begin to separate midway through the first half and were able to run away with the victory.
Two Lions were in double figures, led by Fisher Darden’s 15 points. Darden also added five rebounds to tie for the team lead.
Bailey Wiseman also notched double figures adding 12 points on a team-high three made three-pointers.
Seven players from Winthrop reached double figures, including Jolly, who scored 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
Just over halfway through the first half, a Wiseman three-pointer made it 25-22 in favor of Winthrop. However, the Eagles then responded with a 34-11 run to end the half and take control of the contest.
Up next, the Lions will be back in action on Wednesday with a trip to USC Upstate in another D1 Exhibition.
