Fatal explosion caused by propane gas leak
A memorial service is scheduled Wednesday for the man killed in last week’s home explosion in White County. 71-year old Edgar Brummett died when his grandson’s house blew up Friday. The State Fire Marshal’s Office says the explosion was caused by a propane gas leak. “What caused the leak is unknown,” says spokesperson Glenn Allen.
The explosion was felt as far as thirty miles away in neighboring counties, including Habersham, Stephens and Banks. The force of the blast shattered windows and cracked walls in nearby homes.
In a televised interview Monday, Brummett’s family told WSB-TV in Atlanta they had warned the gas company of a possible leak. They said Brummett was at the house to check on the heat after the furnace quit working.

Brummett was a Vietnam veteran who worked for the V.A., according to his obituary  His memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, at Sylvan Valley Lodge in Sautee Nacoochee. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. at the lodge prior to the service.
