Community turns out in show of support for Easton Cain’s family

A memorial service was held today for 3-year old Easton Cain. The Cleveland, GA preschooler was killed last week when an alleged DUI driver ran into him in the Cleveland Ingles store parking lot.

Cain’s death and the revelations that followed about the driver charged with killing him sparked shock, grief and anger within the community. Today, people turned those emotions into a loving show of support for the young boy’s family.

Dozens of people responded to an event page on Facebook that encouraged the Cleveland community to line the funeral procession route. They stood in support, some with candles and balloons in their hands, as the family passed by. Blue balloons were released into the air along the Appalachian Parkway in memory of Easton.

“…he only knew love.”

The event was just one of many ways people both in and outside the Cleveland community have joined together to support the Cain family. A Go Fund Me page set up the day Easton was killed has raised over $44,000.

The oldest son of Casey and Kala Cain of Cleveland, Easton is survived by his parents and brother, Jaxton. He’s the grandson of Ricky and Stephanie Abernathy and Warren and Carla Cain.

Easton’s family remembers him as a loving boy who embraced and enjoyed life.

“God chose our family to love him for the short time he was here,” reads the preschooler’s obituary. “The list of things he loved were numerous because he only knew love. He loved dinosaurs, trucks, paw patrol, legos, puzzles, books, oatmeal pies, popcorn shrimp, reeses, and tootsie rolls. His smile was contagious and his laugh infectious. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to be outside, playing on his play set, riding his four wheeler and just enjoying life. He enjoyed his swimming pool, learning to swim, jumping off the diving board and sliding down the slide.”
