McDaniel scores 4 in Lions’ win over Alma

Demorest, GA – The Piedmont College women’s lacrosse team picked up scoring from nine different Lady Lions to take down Alma College earlier this afternoon 19-6 at Walker Athletic Complex.

MAGGIE MCDANIEL posted four scores and an assist to lead the home team while Alma’s Brianna Soriano was the only multi-goal scorer for the visitors tallying two with four other Scots scoring one each.

For Piedmont, BLAKE FORREST gets the win playing all 60 minutes in the cage making four saves and allowing six goals.  Making just her second collegiate start, Forrest is now 2-0 on the season while the loss went to Alma’s Miranda Kruse.

Scoring three each for Piedmont was ALEXIS NARDUCCI, MCKYNSEY DOUGLAS, and JENINE BRIDEAU as Brideau also picked up three draw controls on the day.  Piedmont’s draw leader was midfielder CAHNER MANNSwho had five while McDaniel added four to her stat line.

Piedmont scored the first six goals of the game with McDaniel finding the net just 1:13 into the game with freshmanFRANCESCA MALABAD adding another less than 45 seconds later.  McDaniel scored three of PC’s first six goals with one coming on a free position at the 19:17 mark.  Malabad picked up two scores on the day while also leading the team with her three ground balls.

Leading 6-0, the home team allowed an Ashton Street score to put Alma trailing 6-1, but Piedmont scored three straight to answer with McDaniel getting her fourth and final score of the day in that stretch.  Both teams would add another before the intermission as the Lady Lions led 10-2 at the break.

After Douglas and Narducci led the second half off with back-to-back goals for Piedmont, Alma’s Brianna Soriano tabbed the first of two on the day to bring the lead back down to single digits.  However, the advantage would not stay single long as Piedmont scored three unanswered including a pair from JENINE BRIDEAU to go up 15-3.

Alma would score consecutive goals for the first time and only time on the afternoon to cut the margin back to a ten-goal mark, but PC outscored the Scots 4-1 down the stretch to earn a second straight win at Walker in 2015.

With the 13-goal victory, Piedmont improves to a perfect 2-0 after having a pair of games cancelled earlier this week due to the winter weather that swept across the Peach State.

The Lady Lions will get back on the turf in less than 24 hours as they host the Panthers of Hanover College tomorrow for a morning contest. Opening draw for the February 28 game is set for 11:00 am.
