Head Volleyball Coach Jamie McCormack has announced the 2017 Piedmont volleyball schedule featuring the home opener on September 20 v. Brevard College.
This marks the second season under McCormack who joined the Lady Lions in 2016 leading Piedmont to an 18-12 record in her first season. To view the full 2017 schedule, click here.
The Lady Lions finished the 2016 season with a 5-2 mark on the home court inside Cave Arena with the USA South Libero of the Year HALEY HIXON. Hixon was one of three first team West Division USA South All-Conference honorees for Piedmont last season.
Home Opener September 20
Piedmont opens the 2017 home schedule hosting USA South conference member Brevard College. This will mark the first meeting between the two with a pair of matches on the slate as the Tornados have joined the conference, but due to reclassification, will not count toward the conference record until next season. All home action will once again be broadcast on the Mane Event Broadcasting Network through PiedmontLions.com.
Tourney Time
The Lady Lions will have a pair of tournaments to open the season including the Roanoke College Maroon Classic. Piedmont will face a pair of USA South members in non-conference action in Methodist and Mary Baldwin while also challenging the host team Roanoke and Bridgewater College. Roanoke did not drop a set in the 2016 Roanoke College Maroon Classic ending the year 17-9 while Bridgewater went 21-10 in 2016.
USA South Outlook
Piedmont ended the conference schedule 9-6 last season earning the #3 seed in the West Division in 2016. With the divisional scheduling, the Lady Lions will not face East Division teams outside of the two non-conference tournament games against Methodist and Mary Baldwin.
Home Finale
In the second half of October, Lady Lion fans will have three opportunities to see Piedmont in action inside Cave Arena including the home finale on October 21 with a tri-match featuring Berea College and Wesleyan College. Berea is also a new opponent this season with the first meeting coming on the road on September 30 in a tri-match with Wesleyan at Berea. The Lady Lions boast a perfect 13-0 record against the Wolves of Wesleyan in program history.
