Due to last night’s excessive flooding and its effect on the water systems in Habersham County, the cities of Baldwin, Clarkesville, and Demorest are asking all water customers to be as conservative as possible with water usage until further notice.
Collapsed roads and severe flooding damaged pipes in Demorest. The Clarkesville Water Plant is unable to pump water from the river and officials say that city’s water system is currently using what is in its elevated storage tanks.
Crews are working across the county to repair the damage, but Demorest Mayor Rick Austin asks the public to be patient. “It’s going to take some time,” he says.
According to a statement released around 12:30 p.m. Sunday by Baldwin Mayor Joe Elam, that city is not under a Boil Water Advisory but all Demorest water customers are.
All Demorest water customers are urged to bring their water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before drinking, cooking, or preparing baby food with it.
