Maxine Franklin Rice

Maxine Franklin Rice, 92, of Cornelia, Georgia, took her heavenly flight home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

Born in Clarkesville, Georgia, on December 12, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Arlin John & Cleo Jameson Franklin. Maxine was a graduate of Clarkesville High School, Class of 1949. She was a faithful wife, devoted Mom, and loving Nana. Maxine was a homemaker who was well known for her wonderful home-cooked meals, special biscuits made from scratch, and delicious cakes. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and flower and vegetable gardening. She loved reading her Bible and was a tremendous prayer warrior. Maxine was a faithful member of the New Hope Baptist Church, where she served as an integral part of the Ladies Aid Ministry, providing food, flowers, and cards to families in their time of need. She also assisted in Vacation Bible School throughout the years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, William Ray Rice; son, Duane Edward Rice; sister & brother-in-law, Evelyn & Howard Thomason; brothers, Rev. Kenneth Franklin & Douglas Franklin; & brothers-in-law, Bill Glore & Lee Sellers.

Survivors include her children, David & Melanie Rice of Clarkesville, GA; Donald & Melissa Rice of Cornelia, GA; Daryl & Misty Rice of Demorest, GA; grandchildren, Brandon Shook, Haley Rice, Dylan Rice, Connor Rice, & Carter Rice; sisters, Joyce Franklin Glore & Dorothy Franklin Sellers both of Cornelia, GA; brothers & sisters-in-law, Johnny & Karen Franklin of Mount Airy, GA; Ernest Franklin of Baldwin, GA; Marilyn Franklin of Cleveland, GA; Jimmie Sue Franklin of Clarkesville, GA; Oveline Rice of Clarkesville, GA; & a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, & friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2024, at New Hope Baptist Church, with Rev. Robert Nix and Rev. Chris York officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
