Max Edward Herrin, 78, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 27th, 2014. He passed peacefully in his sleep at the Community Hospice of Northeast Florida after an extremely rapid decline in health.
His life was extraordinary, his passing unexpected, and he leaves a long legacy of love and laughter. Max was preceded in death by his first wife of eighteen years, Patricia Hughes Herrin, his mother, Isabelle Herrin Duckett, father, Paul Edward Herrin and his only sibling Kitty Herrin Reynolds.
Max is survived by his beloved wife of thirty three years, Goldie Trulock Herrin, his son Tad Edward Herrin (Barbara) and his daughter Amanda Herrin Kruger (George). Max was the proud grandfather to Tad Herrin, Jr., Chris Herrin, Justin Kruger and Katelyn Kruger Andres. In addition, Max had three stepsons, Frank Beier, Hans Beier and Rick Beier.
Born April 23rd, 1936 in Cornelia Georgia, Max was a resident of Northeast Florida for over forty years. Max had a successful career in banking in Savannah, Jacksonville, and Nashville. He owned and operated two ranches, one in Maysville, Georgia and another in Starke, Florida. Early in his career Max was active in the Savannah, Georgia Jaycee’s serving as their President in 1966. He was a member of San Jose Country Club for over forty years, where he built many long lasting friendships, was an avid golfer, dedicated fitness facility participant, and enjoyed playing cards in the 19th hole. Max was loved by many and always a gentleman. Max enjoyed playing bridge with friends and family. He also loved watching college football with his son and grandsons.
There will be a formal memorial service to celebrate his life at Lakewood United Methodist Church, where Max was a faithful member for 14 years, at 10:30am, Wednesday, December 31st.
A private family graveside gathering will be held on Saturday, January 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at Level Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
