Mary LiBeau Sherard

Mary LiBeau Sherard, 81, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024, at her residence following an extended illness.

Mrs. Sherard was born on March 17, 1942, in Hollywood, California, to the late Ralph Carpenter and Ellen Jones LiBeau.

Mary led a remarkable life, where she served as a flight attendant with Pan American Airways and then transitioned to a fulfilling career in education. She worked as a teacher in Las Vegas, where she met the love of her life, Hank Sherard.

One of the highlights of Mary’s teaching career was her time spent overseas in Okinawa, where she dedicated herself to educating children in a different cultural setting until retiring back to the United States. Outside of her professional life, Mary was known for her love of reading.

Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Hank Sherard, of Cornelia; son and spouse, Jeffrey Layton and Jordan Sandlin Sherard, of Charleston, SC; granddaughter, Elem Sandlin-Sherard; brother-in-law and spouse, Robert Edmund and Marisa Sherard, of Beaufort, SC.

A Private Celebration of Life will be held.
