Mark Richard Wonders, age 82, of Clarkesville, passed away October 8, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 28, 1941, Mr. Wonders was the son of the late Frank J. and Frances Faller Wonders. Mr. Wonders graduated from Jesuit High School, Tampa, Florida in 1959 and was a United States Army Veteran that served in Europe. Mark was an elevator installer and technician for the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local #74 in Tampa before moving to North Georgia. After relocating to Clarkesville in 1977, he and his family started raising registered polled Herefords on their farm. Mark enjoyed playing golf and even owned a Tennis and Golf Shop at one time. He had an affinity for old cars, especially his 50th-anniversary Corvette. He and his wife Dorothy also collected antiques and were owners of Wonder’s Antiques in Clarkesville. Together, they enjoyed boating, traveling, and RV’ing. Mark was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church as well as a founding member of the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his parents, Mark is preceded in death by sister Mary M. Wonders.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Morgan Wonders of Clarkesville; sons and daughters-in-law David Richard Wonders (Paula) of Clarkesville and Dennis Patrick Wonders (Lynn) of Ormand Beach, Florida; brother and sister-in-law Greg Wonders (Judy) of Hudson, Florida; sisters and brothers in law Anne Wonders French (Tip) of Houston, Texas and Rita Wonders Rhoades (Gerald) of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, grandchildren Madeline Wonders of Burke, Virginia, Emily Grace Wonders of Clarkesville and Kevin Richard Wonders of Clarkesville as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 1:30 PM, at St. Mark Catholic Church. Interment will follow the service in Hillside Gardens Cemetery.
