An intense, two-day long, multi-agency manhunt has ended with the capture of a wanted suspect in Banks County. The Banks County Sheriff’s office says Matthew Theodore Samples is now in custody. He was being sought on warrants for kidnapping and aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act. Samples was considered armed and dangerous.
Wednesday morning authorities announced they had called off their active search just hours before announcing Samples was caught. BCSO Sgt. Carissa McFadden says, “He was located by Banks County deputies in a wooded area on Windmill Farm Road property near Highway 441.”
The Banks County Sheriff’s Office issued a public alert and appeal for people to be on the lookout for Samples around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday. Banks County schools were placed on lockdown and officers from Hall County joined in the search. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Banks County Fire/EMS and Banks County E-911 also assisted in the search.
McFadden says Samples was also wanted on an outstanding warrant in Hall County.
