
An industrial accident in Elbert County on Monday, Feb. 17, left a 20-year-old man injured after a fall at a local work site, according to Elbert County Emergency Services.
Elbert County E-911 received reports of the incident just after 9:30 a.m. First responders were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they found the victim had fallen approximately 9 feet from a platform onto a bed of rip rap stone below.
Rip rap stone serves as a large, angular rock or stone intended to protect soil from erosion in areas with high water flow.
EMS personnel and the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office made their way to the injured man to provide immediate medical care, according to authorities. To safely extricate the patient, EMS utilized a quarry cage and a crane on site.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Authorities say his current condition is unknown, and the circumstances surrounding the fall are under investigation.
