Coroner’s office releases name of man found in wrecked car

The Habersham County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man whose body was discovered behind the wheel of a wrecked car near Clarkesville.

Albert Richard McFall, age 65 of Clarkesville, was found dead on July 6. His badly decomposed body was found inside a wrecked 1994 Dodge Shadow along a private drive off of Ben Jones Road.

Medical examiners at the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur conducted an autopsy. They were able to confirm the identity of the body through tests and dental records.

Officials are still waiting on lab results to determine the cause of death. Franklin said at the time that McFall’s body was discovered there was no indication of foul play. The cause and manner of his death have not yet been determined, Franklin says.

Piecing together what happened

An investigation by the Georgia State Patrol revealed the car was traveling south along a private drive when it struck a mailbox at the end of the driveway.

“The vehicle then crossed over Ben Jones Road to the address of 1768 Ben Jones Road,” says Sgt. Casey Coffee. He says the vehicle struck a utility pole with its driver’s side mirror, drove through the yard, then crossed back over the road onto the private drive. The vehicle then traveled off the east side of the driveway striking several small trees before stopping.

The car sustained minor damage from the collisions, according to Coffee. He says the exact date and time of the crash are unknown.
