Authorities have identified the man who drowned at a residence on Lake Lanier Saturday as Frantz Joseph Scutt, age 48, of Gainesville.
According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, game wardens responded to a possible drowning in Little River around 7:30 p.m. on July 2. Bystanders pulled Scutt from the water. He was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville where he was pronounced dead.
Scutt’s death was the first major incident reported on a Georgia lake over this long holiday weekend.
Game wardens are monitoring the state’s waterways this weekend to enhance public safety. As part of “Operation Dry Water,” wardens are focusing their efforts on looking for impaired boaters. On Saturday they issued five BUI citations to boaters on Lake Lanier, nearly half of the statewide total. As of Sunday, wardens had issued a total of 24 BUIs across the state.
Alcohol impairs a boater’s judgment, balance, vision and reaction time. Not good if you want to avoid a potentially fatal incident.
