
On Thursday, May 29, the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested Jack Thomas Harkins, 34, of Tiger, for aggravated assault, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release posted on social media.
Earlier in the week, a warning was posted on the Lake Rabun Homeowners and Lake Rabun Association’s respective Facebook pages. The warning cautioned the public that on Monday, May 26, a man approached a female who was walking her dog on Bear Gap Road near Minnehaha Falls in the morning hours.
The male, later identified as Harkins, pointed a crossbow at the female and ordered her into his truck. The female fled from the armed subject and reported the incident. The man was said to be driving a grey/silver Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Rabun County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area and searched for the man. The RCSO Criminal Investigations Division and the GBI continued the investigation and were able to identify to identify the suspect.
On Thursday, May 29, officials arrested Harkins. He was charged with felony aggravated assault and booked into the Rabun County Detention Center. According to Rabun County jail records, Harkins also was charged with probation violation. No bond has been set at this time.
The case remains under investigation.
Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be provided to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney for prosecution.
