Man arrested for alleged threats against UNG professor

A 23-year-old Alpharetta man is in jail in Lumpkin County charged with making terroristic threats against a professor at the University of North Georgia.

Jose Gomez was arrested at his home on August 4, according to information released Wednesday by the GBI.

On August 1, the UNG Police Department asked the GBI to assist in an investigation involving threats of violence made to a university professor.

The GBI says the threats were made by email and letter. They involved a threat of gun violence against the professor, other staff, and students if the professor did not resign.

The bureau did not release the professor’s name or information about what might have motivated the alleged threats. The agency says Gomez was arrested by Alpharetta Police following “an extensive investigation by the GBI and the UNG Police Department.”

Gomez was transported to the Lumpkin County Jail where he’ll face the charge in Lumpkin County Superior Court.
