Mama G’s Fire Blamed on Faulty Wiring

The fire that destroyed a popular Clayton restaurant has been ruled accidental. The State Fire Marshal’s Office says the fire that destroyed Mama G’s Italian Restaurant on Monday was sparked by “a wire in the wall behind the bar.”

The blaze broke out shortly before 8am on October 19. Rabun County Fire Chief Daniel Johnson says when firefighters arrived flames were shooting through the roof. It took firefighters from four stations several hours to put out the fire and hot spots. Investigators from the state were called in to help determine what caused the fire that resulted in over $1 million in damages
