Low-flying plane stirs alarm in Banks County

A report of a low-flying plane in Banks County caused some alarm and prompted a search for a possible plane crash Friday morning. Fortunately, there was no crash.

Banks County Sheriff’s Sgt. Carissa McFadden says the county’s 911 communications center received three separate calls about the low-flying plane. Banks County Sheriff Carlton Speed requested assistance from Georgia State Patrol Aviation to fly the area to see if there were any signs of a possible plane crash.

“We have confirmed that a local power company did have a plane in the area at a low-flying level to check the condition of power lines,” says McFadden. “They have also confirmed that their pilot and plane are fine and out of the area. No crash has occurred Banks County.”
