Local Habitat launches relief effort for Gatlinburg fire victims

Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Georgia is collecting donated items through the weekend to help the victims of the devastating wildfires in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Habitat’s Restore donation truck will be set up today, Saturday and Sunday during the afternoon at the Goodwill store in the old Walmart parking lot in Cornelia. You may drop off donations at the truck. A wide range of items are needed including towels and blankets, bottled water, diapers and baby wipes, all sizes of new socks and underwear, and personal care/hygiene products (See detailed list below).

Habitat will transport the items to Tennessee later this month.

Donation Hours:

  • Friday Dec. 2 from 4 pm – 6 pm
  • Saturday Dec. 3 from 2 pm – 4 pm
  • Sunday Dec. 4 from 1 pm – 3 pm

Items needed:

  • New socks/underwear – all sizes
  • Towels and blankets
  • Dog/cat food for pets
  • Packs of water bottles and Gatorade
  • Individual packs of snack crackers/nuts/bars
  • Diapers & baby wipes
  • Personal care/hygiene products
  • Gently used clothing in good condition
  • Lip balm and eye drops
  • Toys for children
