Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney Brian Rickman is still in the running to become a state appellate court judge. According to the Daily Report, Rickman is one of 42 lawyers selected by Gov. Nathan Deal’s Judicial Nominating Commission to interview for three new seats on the Georgia Court of Appeals.

The list includes fewer than half of the 110 people who applied for the openings. Interviews are scheduled for next week.

Rickman currently serves as District Attorney for Habersham, Rabun and Stephens Counties. He’s well known in Georgia legal circles and was appointed in May to represent District Attorneys statewide on the Georgia Commission on Medical Cannabis.

The Georgia state legislature this year expanded the number of seats on the Georgia Court of Appeals from 12 to 15 to help ease the court’s caseload.

Rickman and Mountain Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Chan Caudell were among 214 people originally nominated to the court. Caudell later withdrew his name from consideration.
