Local country music star makes history at the Ryman

Habersham County’s own Kimberly Schlapman is making history at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

Schlapman, along with her bandmates in the Grammy Award winning country music quartet Little Big Town, opened a nine-concert, yearlong residency at the historic venue on Friday.

It’s the first time an artist has headlined as many shows over the course of a year in the Ryman’s 125 year history, according to The Tennessean.

Sam Hunt and Chris Stapleton also appeared on stage with LBT Friday. The group performed Saturday, as well.

With no other headlining tour currently scheduled, Little Big Town at the Mother Church will account for a large portion of the foursomes touring plans in North America in 2017, according to Ryman’s official website.

Schlapman told reporters when the band heard about the opportunity for a residency at the Ryman, they “jumped all over it.”

“We get to stay home, sleep in our own beds and sing at the Ryman,” she said. “It doesn’t get much better than that.”

Upcoming concert dates for Little Big Town at the Mother Church include Saturday; May 19-20; July 28-29; Sept. 15-16; and Nov. 27. All concerts start at 8 p.m. Tickets are $50.50-$90.50 through Ticketmaster, 1-800-745-3000 or www.ticketmaster.com.

More dates likely will be added.

The launch of Little Big Town’s residency at the Ryman coincided with the release of the group’s 7th studio album “The Breaker” on February 24th.
