Lloyd Franklin Murray, age 80, of Clarkesville, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024.
Born on June 4, 1944, in Toccoa, he was a son of the late Floyd Paul and Louise Virginia Matthews Murray. Mr. Murray was a United States Army Veteran, having proudly served his country during the Vietnam Era and retired from Milliken after numerous years of service. He was a people person who never met a stranger and liked everyone he met. Mr. Murray’s love of the Lord was displayed through his attendance at New Hope Baptist Church and his enjoyment in Sunday School Class. He took joy in attending Gospel singings and eating out, but most of all, he enjoyed his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Jason Kelley and Bobbie Jo Kelley; brothers Vernon, Donny, and Dan Murray; and sisters, Brenda Carter and Fay Nell Smith.
Survivors include his loving wife, Lorene Gerrin Murray of Clarkesville; daughter and son-in-law, Martha Carnes (Roger) of Tiger; sons and daughter-in-law: Rev. Austin Kelley (Cynthia), Michael Kelley, and Anthony Kelley, all of Clarkesville; brother, Billy Murray of Toccoa; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; special nieces, Sabrina Ayers and Teresa Keller; special nephews, Steve Carter and Gerald Carter; and numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 13, 2024, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Austin Kelley, Rev. Robert Nix, and Mr. Donnie Brock officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Grant-Reeves Veteran’s Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024, at the funeral home.
