Schlapman ‘overwhelmed’ by crowd’s welcome
Kimberly Schlapman, member of the musical group Little Big Town, was in her hometown of Cornelia Saturday. “This place has my heart” she said as she autographed more than 300 copies of her new cookbook and posed for photos in the Cornelia Depot.
“I’m just overwhelmed by the love of the people,” she said as hundreds of fans and friends lined up to see her. “It’s great to see all the friendly faces.”
Schlapman’s group, Little Big Town, and their song “Pontoon” won the Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the 55th Grammy Awards. The group was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry by Reba McIntire, and they were inducted into the Opry by Vince Gill in 2014.
Schlapman now lives in Brentwood, Tennessee with her daughter, seven year-old Daisy, who was present at the book signing with her mother. Another family member at the signing was Schlapman’s mother, Barbara Bramlett, a Habersham County teacher for 30 years.
The cookbook, named “Oh, Gussie!” has been a popular seller at Cornelia’s Books with A’peal, said bookstore owner Glenda Boling. The name of the cookbook was not the name of a relative or friend, she said, but was simply one of Schlapman’s favorite sayings.
The bookstore sold 320 copies of the book, and additional copies have been ordered from the publisher to meet local demand.
Schlapman’s mother says that the cookbook includes a number of family recipes, as well as some of her daughter’s own creations. “Like ‘Collard Green Grilled Cheese’,” she said. “It’s unbelievably good.”
