Council seeks input on Liquor By The Drink in Demorest

At Tuesday’s work session in Demorest, City Council members discussed the option of putting a question on the ballot for the November election. Sweet Breads, the former Clarkesville restaurant set to open this fall in the former Demorest City Hall, has asked the council to consider the issue. Currently, both Cornelia and Clarkesville have ordinances allowing for the on premise consumption of distilled spirits by the glass.

The Council is asking for input from the citizens of Demorest at the next regular meeting, August 4th at 7:00pm. Councilman John Popham remarked, “I think it should be up to the citizens.” Mayor Rick Austin concurred saying,”It’s always good when the people have an opportunity to make their voice heard in a ballot box.”

After next week’s meeting, the council will decide on whether to put the question on the November 3rd ballot.
