Lions Unable To Take Down Hawks

Montgomery, AL – The Piedmont College baseball team wrapped up their three-game series with fellow USA South Conference member Huntingdon College this afternoon as the Lions were unable to come back from an early Hawk lead and fell 10-6.

The Hawks picked up eight of their ten runs in Monday’s game in the first three innings. Scoring three in the first, three in the second, and two in the third, the Lions were unable to overcome the early lead.

Piedmont would get on the board in the top of the third with three runs of their own on a Griffin Olson RBI groundout to score Brad Stinson. Evan Gresham would pick up his first homerun of the 2015 season scoring the remaining two runs in the inning.

The Lions picked up a total of 15 hits as a team with every single hitter in the lineup getting at least one hit. Five different players had two or more hits with freshman Zach Langley leading the charge going 3-for-4.

Michael Barnes extended his hit-streak to 15 games going 2-for-5 today. Also with two-hit days were Olson, Breck Davidson, and Stinson.

Picking up the win on the mound for the Hawks was Jared Gonzalez. He moved to 4-0 on the season with the win, while Mason Throneberry picked up his fifth save of the season pitching the final three innings.

Max Oberkolfer moved to 1-1 on the season picking up his first loss of the 2015 season. Allen Tokaz and Josh Thomas both combined in relief pitching 4.2 innings and giving up only one run.

Thomas still leads the USA South in ERA with a 0.50 allowing his first earned run of the 2015 season this afternoon.

The Hawks now improve to 13-6 overall and 13-5 in the USA South which makes them in sole possession of first place in the conference. The Lions fall to 12-6 overall and in USA South play, and are in second place in the conference.
