JACKSON, Ms. – The Piedmont men’s basketball team dropped an 82-63 game at CCS leader Belhaven on Saturday. The Blazers are the lone undefeated team in the league with three weeks remaining in the regular season.
Piedmont jumped out to an early lead in the opening minutes of play, but Belhaven banked three 3-pointers in less than two minutes to claim the lead, 17-12.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Jackson Houston cut it to a one-point game with 9:59 remaining in the first half, but that was the closest the Lions would come again in the contest. A 14-5 run from that mark built a 10-point lead for Belhaven, who went on to lead 45-32 at the half.
Belhaven led by as many as 23 in the second half and Piedmont was unable to get it under a double digit game in the final 20:00.
Bailey Wiseman led Piedmont with 13 points, while Griffin Neville grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Belhaven’s Jordan Marshall was the leading scorer in the game with 21 points.
There were 14 3-pointers made in the contest but just two of those came in the second half, both by the Blazers.
Next, the Lions return home to host Maryville on Tuesday, February 4 at 7 p.m.
