Greenville, S.C. – The Piedmont College men’s cross country team defeated the defending USA South Cross Country Champions, Covenant College, at the Furman Classic in the first 8K of the season. The Lions ran a team average of 29:18.08 to finish 16th of 19 NCAA Division II, III and NAIA programs.
CODY PARKER returned to the top for the Lions as he has been the Lions frontrunner throughout his career but was just edged out by freshman JARROD HOWELL at the Western Carolina Invitational. CLAYTON THAYER moved into the second spot for Piedmont just 17 seconds behind Parker with Howell running a 29:15.05.
DEWAYNE CAGLE finished in under 30:00 running a 29:56.60 with ZANE RIMMER rounding out the top five for the Lions running a 30:06.74. The defending champions, Covenant, only placed one runner in before the Lions had their top five cross the line.
