White County officials report lightning caused a fire there, too
The thunderstorms that moved through north Georgia overnight did a lot more than dump rain on the region. Lightning sparked fires in several counties.
A busy night in Habersham

Five of the fires were in Demorest. There was one in Mt. Airy and another in Baldwin. Black says lightning strikes caused all of them.
Firefighters were dispatched to the following addresses:
- 217 Stonebrook Drive, Demorest
- 218 Hopes Circle, Demorest

- 2048 Riverbend Road, Demorest
- 205 Smiley York Road, Demorest
- 407 Holly Circle, Mt. Airy

Fortunately, the fires caused minimal damage. Black says there was “nothing major” on any of the calls.

Lightning strikes gas line in White County
Lee Arrendale firefighters also assisted the White County Fire Department after lightning struck an L.P. gas line and started a fire near an outdoor utility building late Wednesday night.
The fire broke out shortly after 10 p.m. at a residence at 641 Adair Mill Road. It severely damaged the building and caused some electrical damage inside the home. The homeowner was able to put out most of the fire before firefighters arrived, according to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy.
No injuries were reported.
White County Fire, Mutual aid from City of Cleveland and L.A.C.I. responded. Upon arrival of first units the homeowner had the fire nearly extinguished. No injuries were reported.
