More scenes from Monday’s Memorial Day ceremony at the Veterans of Foreign Wars cemetery in Demorest. More than 100 people turned out to honor our nation’s war dead, according to organizers. It was a moving ceremony that saw people of all ages come together on the most somber federal holiday America observes.
“For us that have served and have been where the wheel meets the road we know it’s (Memorial Day) more than just sales and barbecues. For many of us it’s a gut check, as we have lost comrades we have trained with and served with….
Those who have served wrote a blank check. Our fallen heroes made the ultimate sacrifice and we owe it to them and their families to carry on their stories and memories so people can truly understand the sacrifices that were made for their freedoms.” ~ VFW Post 7720 Commander Bill Miles
Cadets with the Jr. Air Force ROTC program at Habersham Central High School presented the Colors. 12-year old Cheyenne Rinefierd, daughter of T.J. and Jennifer Rinefierd of Cornelia, sang the National Anthem.
