Five hundred kids of all ages filed into Pitts Park in Clarkesville on Tuesday for a bit of summertime fun. They attended the summer reading program kickoff hosted by Habersham County’s public libraries.

The foam party included free suds to play in, free snow cones and pizza to eat, and a chance to register for the free summer reading program. So many attended, they had to queue up for a taste of summertime fun, but they didn’t seem to mind. Library workers were thrilled with the turnout.

“What a wonderful turnout at Pitts Park!” exclaimed Cornelia Library Children’s Director Tiffani Arriaga after the event. “As of right now, we have 350 people signed up for the Habersham County Summer Reading Program.”

The program is open to readers of all ages. Participants can earn prizes for reading books and participating in weekly challenges. The summer reading program will also feature guest speakers and outings.
