Life in Motion: Serving up gratitude

Local first responders enjoyed a hot breakfast on the house Friday at Crossroads Café in Demorest. North Georgia Home Group footed the bill for the meals. It’s the second time the Habersham County-based realty company has sponsored a First Responders Appreciation Breakfast.

North Georgia Home Group owners Laura and Josh Anderson are both former law enforcement officers. He served 12 years on the force in Habersham and Gwinnett counties.

“It’s important to let them [first responders] know that we as a community appreciate them and are grateful for everything they do,” Josh says.

Over 100 law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EMTs from Habersham, Rabun, and White counties attended this year’s breakfast. The Andersons delivered meals to others.

“We took food over to the dispatchers because they’re the true first responders and are often overlooked,” Josh says. “We made sure that we showed them support and offered the same appreciation as those that came in.”

In addition to the free meals, the Andersons gave away specially-designed coffee mugs, t-shirts, and hats.

“We just wanted our first responders to know that we back the blue and support the thin red line,” Laura tells Now Habersham. “Our love for the community and those who took an oath to serve and protect it runs deep.”

Last year’s inaugural event drew around 75 first responders. The Andersons say they plan on continuing the breakfast as an annual event each February.
