Some local high schoolers got a chance this weekend to enjoy one last dance before they graduate. About 75 people attended a formal dance for the Habersham Central High School Class of 2020. The non-school sanctioned event was held at Lilly Creek Farm in Dawsonville.

Friends and family organized the event after Central canceled its prom due to COVID-19.

Students enjoyed time inside on the dance floor and with the self-serve photo booth. They also enjoyed outdoor activities such as cornhole and hanging out at the lakeside gazebo.

While admission was free, organizers are seeking to offset the cost of the event through an online fundraiser. If you’d like to contribute, visit Habersham Senior Dance 2020 on Facebook.

There are 444 seniors from HCHS and the Success Academy graduating this year. The ceremony was delayed two months due to the pandemic. In-person graduation is scheduled for 8 p.m. this Friday, July 31, at Raider Stadium in Mt. Airy.
