The curtain call at Sunday’s matinee performance of Footloose in Mt. Airy, saw life imitate art.
On stage, Austin Weyrich played husband to his real-life girlfriend, Julianna Ward. After the show, Weyrich proposed making their roles permanent as he dropped to one knee with a ring in hand and asked Ward to marry him.
She said, “Yes!”
The moment was captured on video and was a happy conclusion to four days of rousing performances.
The Habersham Community Theater produced the musical Footloose in partnership with the Habersham Central High School Stage Raiders. They performed at the high school fine arts auditorium. Sunday’s performance – and proposal – were witnessed by a near sell-out crowd of over 600 people.
Footloose marked Weyrich’s theatrical debut. He portrayed Coach Roger Dunbar to Ward’s Eleanor Dunbar. In the playbill, he gave a shout-out to his future wife, saying, “Offstage, he cherishes his girlfriend and stage wife, Julianna, who inspired his love for theater.”
We wish them the very best!
