The first day of fall announced itself in Habersham County on September 22 with cool temperatures and blue skies between the bouts of rainy weather the region has seen for days. People strolled along the streets of Downtown Clarkesville during their lunch breaks, taking in the city’s charm and beautiful fall decor.
The Clarkesville Gardening and Grounds team has been prepping for fall since early spring, planting red and yellow flowers to bloom for the season, and making decisions on downtown decor.
Lead Gardener Sarah Samsel, known for her creative visions around Downtown Clarkesville, began putting together plans for this year’s decor a few months ago. She and City Gardener Michael Yearwood worked hard turning that plan into a vision that now, everyone who passes through town can enjoy. Clarkesville is vibrant with blooming fall flowers, colorful leaf garland, corn husks, wreaths and scarecrows.
Samsel says the goal for this year’s fall decorations in Clarkesville was to incorporate bright, colorful, cheerful pieces downtown to bring joy to residents and visitors. She says the best part is watching downtown businesses put up their own decorations to fit with theirs.
“I am excited about how it just ties downtown together,” Samsel says. “Having the different colors and the scarecrows and everything—and so many of the businesses are and will continue to put up fall decorations. It’s fun to see how it just all ties together.”
