“He grew up in Habersham County and was one of our best and brightest, always giving back to the community and setting an example for all who knew him.”
Lawmakers at the Georgia State Capitol this week paid tribute to one of Habersham’s own. They presented a resolution to the family of slain Dekalb County Police Officer Edgar Flores. Flores was shot to death by a suspect following a traffic stop in Dekalb on December 13, 2018.
Dekalb County Rep. Becky Evans drafted the House Resolution honoring Flores’ life and memory. It recognizes him for his heroism and his “extraordinary devotion to public service.”
The resolution states Officer Flores “will long be remembered for his inspiring commitment to the welfare of others.”
Flores, who grew up in Baldwin and graduated from Habersham Central High School, served on the force for 18 months. He was 24 years old and engaged to be married when he was killed.
District 10 State Rep. Terry Rogers was among the lawmakers who attended the ceremony on March 25 honoring Flores on the House floor. He called it a “sad but proud day” and said Flores “was one of our best and brightest, always giving back to the community and setting an example for all who knew him.”
