The Rock at Habersham Central High School in Mt. Airy got a makeover on Tuesday. Students painted the iconic landmark to show their support for junior Hadden Carswell, who was critically injured in an automobile accident on Feb. 24.
Carswell underwent emergency surgery immediately after the accident. His family continues to provide updates on his condition through the Facebook page Carswell Strong.
On Thursday, Feb. 27, Carswell had surgery on his leg and came through “just fine” his mom, Nichole Carswell, says. “If all goes well tonight and the neurosurgeon clears him tomorrow, he will have the surgery to fix his hip.”
She says her son will have to have at least one more surgery on his leg.
“His trauma team has decided to keep him sedated until after all of his surgeries are completed. He is making progress but it is going to be very slow,” she says. “We are fast approaching 72 hours, which is typically when any swelling in the brain peaks.”
The family continues to lean on their faith and the support of the local community.
“We are so humbled by the prayers, messages, texts, phone calls, visits, and gifts. We did not realize that Hadden’s village was so large,” Nichole says. “Thank you for loving on our boy and on us.”
