Hundreds of people gathered in boats on Lake Burton Saturday to enjoy a magnificent fireworks display. The celebration marked two special occasions – America’s 244th birthday and Lake Burton’s first 100 years.

Fireworks on Burton are always big, but this year’s pyrotechnic party was a showstopper. The Lake Burton Fireworks group paid $65,000 for the dual Independence Day / Centennial Celebration. The money was raised through donations from homeowners, small businesses, and visitors to the lake.

Now in its fourth decade, this annual, boat accessible fireworks show is among the largest in Georgia. The fireworks are shot from Billy Goat Island in the middle of the lake located in western Rabun County.

Local photographer Kyle Shook shared these images with Now Habersham so you can enjoy a glimpse of this breathtaking birthday bash.
