In mid-July, the City of Cornelia closed a section of Level Grove Road for maintenance scheduled to take three, maybe four, weeks. Seven weeks later, the city says the road should reopen at some point next week.
The road was closed in July to replace the sewer main and install drainage along Level Grove, but things got tricky when several water lines were found by the contractor working on the road that the city was unaware of.

City Manager Donald “Dee” Anderson says that this isn’t uncommon in Cornelia– several years ago, water and sewer lines were added through the city and not documented.
The city is working on tracking these lines to see if they are still needed– for those lines with customers on them, the city will need to reconnect them to the newer, documented lines the city has.
“We are confident that all of these lines have now been discovered and taken care of,” Anderson says. “As of last week, the contractor has begun working on the original reason for the road closure, which was to replace the sewer main and install drainage.”
Anderson says the road should reopen next week, weather permitting.
