Isaiah 30:21, “Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ Whenever you turn to the right or whenever you turn to the left.”
I bought one of those walking apps on my iPhone. The kind that push and motivate. Maybe you listen to one too? She starts with stretching, then the warm-up, and before you know it, you are attempting to go a certain distance in this amount of time.
The hardest part for me is getting started. Once I make it to the gym, get on the treadmill, and set the right pace, I hear her motivating words about fitness and health and feeling good about myself, that it is no longer as hard as my mind made it out to be. I actually like it. “Come on now! Push through!” she reminds me. “Hit this hill strong!” “That’s it! Press on!” “You can do it!”
The other day, she and I walked longer than I have before and as I wiped down the treadmill (not from all the sweat, though I wish! It’s just the thing everybody does who actually is sweating!), I thought of this scripture in Isaiah. “This is the way, walk in it!”
When we know God’s voice and enter into a relationship with Him, we never have to worry about being lost. We never have to worry about the direction we need to go. He is right there in our ear, encouraging us, motivating us, and pushing us through the rough spots. And just like with my walking, the hardest part is getting started. Once we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and learn to hear Him, the rest is in His hands.
I used to have OnStar. I traded in my Buick for a Toyota during the gas crunch and my new car doesn’t have OnStar. But, I loved having them with me and I miss it. “You have left the planned route! Make a U turn when it is safe to do so.” The assurance that if I took a wrong turn, I’d know it immediately and correct it, was a great comfort.
And so it is with God…
Listen for His voice today! Know that He cares about the direction of your life and wants to bring meaning and purpose to it.
“Hit this hill strong! Come on now! You can do it!”
