LEXINGTON, Ky. – With a final round of 3-under 69, Piedmont College junior men’s golfer Matthew Leemann captured the individual title at the Transylvania Fall Invitational, held at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington.
After opening with a first-round 68 on Saturday, Leemann fell back to 1-under for the tournament after a second-round 75. Heading into the final day tied for the lead, the Milton, Georgia native carded five birdies in his final round to shoot a 3-under 69 and finish at 4-under for the tournament and win by two shots.
Sophomore Michael Clardy delivered a strong final round showing, tying his career-best round of 1-under 71 to move up to a tie for 45th.
Josh Desain concluded the event at 5-over to place in a tie for 12th out of 88 competitors.
Freshmen Fred Roberts (73) and Mario Perezcassar Iii (74) each delivered their best rounds of the tournament to help vault Piedmont into third place as a team.
Piedmont’s team score of 287 was the best any team shot over the three-round tournament.
Up next, the Lions will break for two weeks before teeing it up again at the Rhodes Fall Collegiate Classic, starting Sunday, Sept. 22.
