Lee Roy Brookshire, age 78 of Baldwin, passed away on Monday, September 3, 2018.
Born in Demorest, Georgia on April 22, 1940 to the late Ausborn and Bonnie Burrell Brookshire. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, as a medic in the Vietnam War, and went on to retire from the Army with over 20 years of service. Prior to his military service, Mr. Brookshire was employed with McGahee Funeral Home in Cornelia and following his discharge from the Army, he resumed his career in the funeral industry with Powell Mortuary in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Mr. Brookshire was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Demorest.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Hawthorne & Nannie Rose Brookshire.
Surviving are his uncle, Robert Brookshire of Demorest; niece, Doris Brookshire of Demorest; great nieces, Candace Barron Romero of Alto and Cristin Henry of Toccoa; numerous cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 am, Friday, September 7, 2018 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Demorest. Interment will follow in the VFW Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army, Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, American Legion Post #84, and the DAV Chapter #15.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
