2 Lee Arrendale inmates back in custody after vanishing from work detail over a year ago

Two women who prison officials say walked away from a prison work detail at Fieldale Farms in Baldwin over a year ago are now back in custody in Habersham. 40-year-old Lois Elizabeth Sorrow and 29-year-old Megahn Wright were arrested on outstanding warrants on Monday, March 1. Officials charged both of them with escape.

According to the arrest warrants, Sorrow and Wright left Lee Arrendale State Prison in Alto on a work detail the afternoon of October 3, 2020. They were scheduled to return to the facility by one o’clock the next morning but prison officials say they never did.

When she escaped, Wright was serving time at LASP on a weapons charge out of Charlton County, Georgia, GDC records show. She had already served out her time on a drug possession charge.

Sorrow, who has a long list of priors including drug and theft charges, had completed nearly two years of a five-year sentence for second-degree burglary out of Madison County when she escaped. She had served time in prison on unrelated charges twice before.

It remains unclear as to how and where the women were found. After being re-arrested, they were booked into the Habersham County jail and released back to LASP on $11,100 bond each.

Now Habersham has reached out to the Georgia Department of Corrections for additional information.

This marks the second time in a year that LASP has arrested inmates for escape. In June 2021, Cheryl Graves was returned to the prison in Alto nearly two years after officials say she walked away from her work detail in Baldwin.
