Funeral services are scheduled this weekend for a 29-year-old Lavonia man killed in a crash with a semi while vacationing with his family in Florida.
Austin Collins, 29, died May 17 in a wreck on Interstate 95 near St. Augustine.
Collins was a passenger in a sedan with his wife and two boys, ages 5 and 7. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, she lost control of the car in the rain. The vehicle struck a guardrail and traveled into the path of the semi, News4JAXreports.
All four family members were taken to the hospital, where Collins was pronounced dead. The three others were treated for minor injuries.
Collins was a truck driver for Bluegrass Dedicated. His family says he loved music and was a talented guitarist and singer.
“His family meant the world to him, and he loved spending time with them,” his family wrote in his obituary. “Austin will be remembered for his big heart and his bubbly personality.”
Collins is survived by his wife, Chelsey Carmen Lynn Collins, of Lavonia, a daughter, and two sons. He is also survived by his father and stepmother, Barry and Sarina Collins, of Cornelia, and two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 27, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel in Demorest.
