Last remaining area public school systems close over coronavirus concerns

Franklin, Hart, and Stephens had been the last holdouts

Now that the governor has declared a public health emergency and COVID-19 has been confirmed in the region, the last three Northeast Georgia school systems to hold out on closing have closed.

School administrators in Franklin, Hart, and Stephens counties announced their decisions on Sunday, March 15. Stephens County schools are closed March 16 until further notice. A notice on the Stephens County School system website states, “Closure will be reassessed on each Thursday for the following week.  However, parents should plan for an extended closure.”

Franklin and Hart County schools are closed at least from March 16-27.

Students and parents should check with their schools’ respective websites and social media channels for additional information.
