Larry Glenn “Zippo” Zimmerman

Larry Glenn “Zippo” Zimmerman, age 64 of Cornelia, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016.

Born in Habersham County on August 17, 1951, he was a son of the late James Daniel “Dan” and Alice Payne Zimmerman. Mr. Zimmerman was retired from the United States Army, with 20 years of dedicated service, having served during the Vietnam Era. He also was retired from the United States Postal Service as a senior mail processor.

In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, fishing, watching westerns, his ‘56 Bel Air, but most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn Carpenter Zimmerman and a brother, Johnny Zimmerman.

He is survived by his wife, Mylessa “Bo” Bennett Zimmerman of Cornelia; daughters and sons-in-law, Kristie and Shane Dover of Demorest and Lacey and Chase Butler of Cornelia; step daughter, Christy Roach of Turnerville; brothers, M.J. Zimmerman of Demorest, David Zimmerman, Richard Zimmerman and Frank Zimmerman all of Cornelia; sisters, Mildred Irvin and Janice Holbrook both of Cornelia and Joyce Wade of Demorest; six grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews.  

Funeral services are 3:30 pm Thursday, February 4, 2016, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Doug Porter and Dr. Kenneth Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the United States Army.  

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
