(Cleveland) – The Roy Head Post of the American Legion in Cleveland held a Veterans Day ceremony at Freedom Park in Cleveland today. A large crowd attended and participated in the event which included the reading of winning essays in the American Legion Essay Contest.
White County Middle School student participating were 6th grader Cisco Harper, 7th grader Griffin Harper and 8th grader Leah Smith. Special music by Barbara Chambers, Judy Lovell, and Ann Teems.
American Legion Commander Mike Allen said he was pleased by the turnout.
“We had a variety of people and I will tell you one thing that impressed me was the number of local law enforcement that showed up today, I like that because they serve almost like your military, I mean, they are on the line every day, ” said Allen.
The program concluded with a 21 gun salute by White County Color Guard and playing of taps by Eddie Allen.
