Repairs have been completed on the lap pool inside the Habersham County Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center and it is open for business.
Habersham County Parks and Recreation Director Brooke Whitmire says an inspection by Habersham County Environmental Health on Monday, Nov. 13, allowed the pool to be reopened with no further action needed.
The pool was closed on Sept. 19 due to issues with visibility. Work by county staff and a contractor in the subsequent weeks has led to its successful reopening.
The normal schedule for the lap pool will resume immediately with scheduled events being held as planned.
“While our normal operating hours are 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, it is worth noting that we are in the middle of swim season,” Whitmire says. “We do house the high school swim team, Piedmont University swim team, and a youth swim team, so the lap pool is pretty busy from about 3:45 to 8 p.m. daily, but we do try to leave at least one lane open if possible.”
Whitmire said accommodating lap swimmers who do not want to be there during swim teams practicing is the reason for the earlier opening hours in the morning.
The approximately 600 Habersham County residents with paid all-access memberships to the facility will receive an automatic extension of their service. That extension should be noted to accounts within the next week or so.
