Tuesday night saw the Lady Raiders drop another tough region matchup, falling 58-44 while the boys dropped a 72-39 game in the nightcap.
For the girls, it was the third Region 8-AAAAAA game they have dropped. The girls had suffered two straight region games coming out of the Christmas break, falling in nail-biting fashion to Gainesville 62-57 on January 12, and then to Dacula by a 43-40 score the following day.
The Lady Raiders rebounded with a thrilling 51-50 victory over Lanier on Saturday before losing Tuesday night to Winder. Despite being down 27-18 in the Lanier game at the half, the girls re-grouped and outscored the Lady Longhorns 15-7 in the third quarter to pull within 34-33. Habersham edged out Lanier 18-16 in the final frame of that contest to win its first region game of the season.
The loss to Winder moves the girls to 13-6 overall and 1-3 in region play.
The Raiders are now 1-17 on the season with an 0-4 mark within the region following their loss.
Former Habersham Central star athlete Tavarres King was on hand to take on the games. King, a wide receiver for the New York Giants, caught his first career NFL TD pass in the Giants’ first round loss of the playoffs.
Both teams return to action against Lanier on Thursday evening.
