The Lady Raiders pulled off a thrilling win Wednesday over Lanier to punch a ticket to state, and very nearly advanced to the Region 8-AAAAAA title game.
Friday night, Habersham, who entered the region tournament as the fifth-seed, came very close to upsetting top-seeded Winder-Barrow. The girls fell just short in the 53-49 loss. In Saturday afternoon’s consolation game – to determine the third and fourth seed out of the region – the Lady Raiders fell 51-44 to Dacula.
For Habersham (16-12), this marks the first time since the 2011-12 season that the girls have made the state playoffs. John Hood’s team takes on the region champions from Region 6-AAAAAA, which turned out to be Creekview, a two-seed that pulled off an upset 54-38 win over Harrison.
The date and time for the GHSA Opening Round game for the Lady Raiders has not been announced, but GHSA has slated February 17-18 as the dates available to play. Habersham will travel to Creekview, as they are the higher seed.
