Lady Raiders 13th, Raiders 15th in State Tournament

It was a surprise that both GHSA Class 6A boys and girls State Tournaments even got to finish in the allotted two days.

While other classifications were washed out for the second day (and thus making the first day results stand as final), Habersham Central boys and girls were able to finish out their respective two-day tournaments.

The Lady Raiders finished 13th, shooting a team score of 598. After firing a 302 in day one, the girls rebounded with a 296 to finish ahead of region foes Gainesville. Johns Creek (446) won the state championship.

Catherine Lama and Kiley Blackburn shot an identical 184, with Lama shooting a 93 and 91. Blackburn carded a 92 in both days. Anna DeMore (231), Kelley Kastner (242) rounded out the girls scoring.

The Raiders finished 15th among stiff competition, carding a 644 overall two-day score. After a 324 in the first round, the boys closed with a 320 to polish off what has been an historic year.

Ben Cantrell (160) led the Raiders, finishing tied for 77th individually. He shot an 82 and 78. Junior Cooper Roland (161) tied for 79th with a 79 followed by 82. Gavin Jones (85-78-163) finished 87th, while senior Dawson Fricks (78-86-164) tied for 88th.

Among the other area programs, Union County girls finished as state runner-up in the 3A tournament, while White County sophomore Caroline Craig (UGA golf commit) became the 4A State Champion individually. The Lady Warriors placed fifth overall.
